
When the business was sold in 1984, he took the opportunity to renew his interest in mediaeval mysticism, researching into Hildegard of Bingen and Joachim of Fiore at the Warburg Institute in London. At the same time he studied for an HND in computing at what was then Cambridge College of Arts and Technology. In 1987 he took up the offer of a part time post at the College to run a short course department, and this led later to a full time appointment and subsequently to his appointment to his current post as Head of Computer Services at Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge.
Thomas Rochford is married to an Iranian wife who introduced him to the culture and architecture of her country, and the care and love of her family, many of whom live in or near Isfahan. He speaks fluent German and can make himself understood in Farsi. In addition to running the University Computer Service, he has written books on horticulture and has a sound knowledge of programming in various languages including ADA and C++.
