The complex vaulting of the 12th century Eastern eivan, was added by Shah Suleiman in 1689 as indicated by the tiled inscription. The independent status of the Friday Mosque and its enduring status gave it particular political importance and ensured that each successive dynasty contributed to its embellishment.

There is some fine panelwork on the sides of this eivan as well.
